Semantic Enrichment Tools

Semantic Enrichment Tools for Cultural Heritage

These are the natural language processing tools used to extract meaningful Cultural Heritage (CH) annotations from CH textual descriptions of CH records (such as artifacts, people documents etc). They take as input JSON serialized text from a CH source (e.g. a SPARQL query from an RDF database of artifact descriptions) and output RDF triples using CIDOC-CRM annotations. The module is accessed via command-line and is designed to be integrated into the functional environment.

This component offers many benefits to users such as curators, since it cost-effectively makes annotations of old records in a batch process, giving rich annotations that can be used in search systems going beyond simple keyword search. The rich annotations created by this NLP tool also allow for better metadata differentiation between artifacts which are otherwise very similar, such as is found with terracotta fragments.
