Desktop-Client

The Desktop-Client

The desktop-client is also divided in the clipboard and a workspace as well as a toolbar and a viewbar. The latter determines the kind of activity a user can perform and what tools will be available and consists in: Inspection View, Fragment View, Re-Assembly View, History View and Groups View.

Inspection View

Standard visualisation and manipulation tools for rotation, zoom in and out, measurement, changing the light position and change the visualisation mode between points, wireframe and solid allow the inspection and comparison of artefacts. The metadata and paradata of each artefact is displayed as an expandable tree below the interactive 3D visualisation of its model. Geometric properties, facets and annotations of the displayed artefacts can be loaded as well and being inspected in parallel for two or more artefacts.

Fragment View

The Fragment View has the same visualisation tools as the Inspection view but only for one object at a time. It has additional selection tools and allows a user to create new 3D part-based annotations by selecting an area of interest and tagging it with an appropriate term from a specifically designed Cultural Heritage Artefact Partonomy (CHAP), that divides artefacts in meaningful parts and subparts. It also contains an automatic feature extraction tool that is able to recognize certain features, such as eyes or lips, on an artefact.

Relevant software components: Annotation Transfer tool, Features Identification Module, GraviFix, GRAVITATE Desktop Client and 3D part-based annotation

3D Reassembly

Potentially matching objects are put in a workbench by the user and reassembly algorithms will attempt to find matching pairs, which the user can approve or discard.

Relevant software components: GraviFix, Annotation Transfer tool, GRAVITATE Desktop Client and 3D part-based annotation, Faceting Software, Mating/Docking function, Approximate ReAssembly Algorithm

History

All the steps taken and observations made can be documented as a text or notes in the History view by the user.

Relevant software components: GRAVITATE Desktop Client and 3D part-based annotation

Groups

The groups created in the clipboard can be managed and inspected in the Group View.
