Approximate ReAssembly Algorithm
Approximate ReAssembly Algorithm

The function of the Re-Assembly Algorithm is to aid a conservator to reassemble an artifact from its fragments. Taking images or scans of the fragments selected by the conservator, the algorithm is able to perform the reassembly automatically. Within the context of GRAVITATE, a fast approximate alignment of fragments aids both the exploratory archaeological investigator, and the more computationally expensive UvA docking algorithm. Haifa has developed such an algorithm for 3D meshes, based on approximate matching of the fracture outlines.
The algorithm is at TRL-3: ready for application as a proof of concept. The algorithm is currently available as stand-alone executable.
